About
Holden Summers is a working magician based in New York. He performs close-up and parlor magic in the classical tradition — the canonical effects of Vernon, Malini, and their lineage, refined through the handlings of Charlie Miller and others.
The current parlor set is five pieces: linking rings, the egg bag, silks, a cut and restored rope, and balls in net. Alongside, three original close-up routines in cards, coins, and dice, developed over the past decade.
Recent work includes a parlor set in continuous performance for three years and an hour-long illusion show in preparation.
Performances
Mingling
45–90 min
One-on-one and small-group close-up magic for cocktail parties, gallery openings, and private receptions. The magic moves with the magician through the room.
Parlor
10–20 min
A formal set of classical magic for groups of twenty to one hundred in a defined performing space. Suited to private events and hosted seated audiences.
Bespoke
By arrangement
Custom illusion work designed for specific events — milestone celebrations, corporate honoraria, private gatherings. Built apparatus, performed once for the event it was made for.
Original Work
Three close-up routines developed over the past decade. Each in the Vernon tradition: the spectator's own hands do the magic.
I.
Cards
A card is touched in the deck, vanished, and found in an impossible place. The choosing, losing, and finding belong to the spectator.
II.
Coins
A coin routine in three movements. Coins are tossed in the air and return — or fail to — in ways more surprising than a coin landing on its edge. Performed at close range with everyday pocket change.
III.
Dice
A dice routine performed as a tutorial. The seven-sum rule of standard dice is demonstrated genuinely; many impossible things happen within the lesson. The spectator throws the final pip and watches their own throw cause the change.
Q & A
Q.
When did this start?
A.
A decade ago, in a diner after a show, I saw real magic.
Q.
How did you just do that?
A.
Practice and study. I am not naturally supernatural.
Q.
Why?
A.
Wonder is precious and scarce.
